Anak-anak seni SSeJB telah membuktikan kepada masyarakat luar bahawa kesenian bukanlah hanya sekadar hiburan semata-mata tetapi anugerah yang diberi kepada mereka. BUKTIKANLAH.!!

Practising Techniques for a Musical Instrument

Playing a musical instrument is great fun, whether it be by yourself, with one other person playing duets or in a group such as an orchestra, rock band , flute choir, chamber group. In order for you to be able to do this you need to be able to play the pieces. So what needs to happen? PRACTISING.This is the art of focused, repeated, playing. Practising is likened to the training a sports person does to be good. A coach or music teacher explains what the problems are and the real work is done by you at your training or practise sessions. Here are some tips.

1. Play slowly. This enables you to focus on all areas of the piece and get it accurate. When you learn a piece of music you go through a number of steps. Firstly you get the notes accurate. Secondly you get the rhythm correct. Thirdly you add the require musical features such as dynamics, ornaments, appropriate speed and anything else which the piece requires. Take this step one feature at a time. If the piece needs to go at a fast pace then you will need to do lots of repeated playing to build up the speed with ease. Lots of slow, focused practise will aid with this.

2. Repeat difficult sections: This could be two notes , such as an interval change for tone, or two bars to practise a difficult rhythm. Then practise a couple of bars or a phrase either side of the difficult section(s) to flow it through. Extend the number of phrases you practise around the difficult part(s) and eventually play the whole piece through at the speed of the difficult section(s). Sometimes when people practise the difficult section on its own and get it correct and then when you it is put in context with more of the piece , the original mistake reoccurs. This is common. Just keep up the slow, focussed practise. Practising difficult sections on their own help make the sections as easy as the simpler parts. Sometimes when there are easy and difficult sections people play them at different speeds and then do not get the understanding of how the piece should flow at one even tempo. This is where you play the piece at the speed of the harder sections.

3. Play extra exercises: If there are problems in any section of the piece then you can do extra exercises away from the piece eg in rhythm or tone exercises. A music teacher can advise some exercises. Rhythm exercises could include clapping and counting out loud, slowly. Then playing several times. A metronome can keep you in time, especially if you play a wind nstrument and can't count out loud when you play. Tone exercises could include playing long notes, listening carefully and changing something you are doing if you are not happy with the sound. If you are playing notes up a scale start with a tone you can play well and move that sound onto the next note. Try and get the same effect.

4. Repeat Often: You need to repeat your practise sessions on different days of the week. It is much better to do a little practise ( as low as 5 minutes ) and often than one big practise ( 30 minutes ) one day a week or before the lesson . This is like anything in life, if you repeat it often enough then you get to know it. Draw yourself up a practise honesty chart with weeks down left hand side and days of week across the top. Fill it in every time you practise. Try and do at least 5 practise sessions each week.

5. Practise for a similar time each session: The amount of time to practise will vary according to you level. Beginners can start off with 5-10 minutes, Intermediate people ( at grade 5 level ) should expect to do 30 minutes and Advanced people ( grade 8 and above ) may practise 2 or 3 hours. Regular training works. Just remember the whole point of learning an instrument is to enjoy it. So always play music you like for fun. Your focussed practise sessions will be separate so that you can improve and then play more difficult pieces for fun.

6. Correct Posture: Make sure you practise using a posture suitable for your instrument eg for wind instruments you will need a straight back ie not slouched and relaxed shoulders in order to breathe properly and produce a good tone. You could be sitting or standing. It is a good idea to practise both ways if you can. Just remember if you are aiming to play in a group such as an orchestra or chamber group then you will be sitting dowm. If you want to be a solo perfomer you will stand if the instrument allows you too.

7. Use a Mirror: Play pieces, exercises in front of the mirror and have a look to see if there is anything which may need correcting eg posture, holding the instrument.

8. Wear Comfortable Clothing

An example of a 30 minute practise session: ~ warm up with simple pieces you like to play ~ 5 minutes tone exercises ~ 5 minutes on current scales and technical exercises ~ 5 minutes or more on current studies, repeating some old ones ~ 10 minutes on the pieces you are currently learning with your teacher if you have one.

You can take a break in the middle .

It’s no secret that virtually everyone loves music in some form or other. After all, it is the universal language, and we all participate in it to some degree from the cradle to the grave. It starts with our Mothers’ lullaby, ends with our funeral song, with a zillion other stops along the way.

But what is music, anyway? What makes it tick? We all love some form of it and dislike other forms of it.

The country-western fan may not like jazz, but he or she sure loves the sound of pickin’ & grinnin’. And the jazz fan feels just the opposite.

And that’s as it should be. If we all liked the same kind of music, there just wouldn’t be the variety that is available to us now. We can choose from musical styles ranging from heavy classical and opera to rock to children’s songs to Broadway musicals to gospel music to the blues.

Each has its place, and each seems on the surface to be drastically different than another form of music. The key word is “on the surface.” But beneath the surface of all music is a commonality that is organic to all forms and styles of music.

So what does all music have in common?

At least 3 things – sometimes more, but never less:

1. Melody

2. Rhythm

3. Harmony

The melody is the part of a song or composition that you whistle or hum – in other words, the tune of the song. In one sense, it is the most visible of the 3 elements, because melody is what identifies a song. Without melody, it would be difficult to even conceive of a song or piece.

In musical notation, the melody is almost always written in the treble clef – also known as the treble staff. It consists of a horizontal line of notes that move up and down on the clef as the tune moves higher or lower.

Rhythm is the beat – the swing – the throb of the music. It happens in repeating patterns, depending upon the type of music. It is like a horizontal line of beats which occur at regular or semi-regular intervals. A waltz, for example, basically consists of a heavy beat followed by two lighter beats. So we say that a waltz is in triple meter – one strong beat followed by two weak beats, then repeated.

A march, on the other hand, generally consists of a heavy beat followed by a light beat, then another heavy beat followed by another light beat. (I’m simplifying, of course – there are many varieties…) So a march is in duple meter – as you might expect since we have two feet and we march in left-right-left-right patterns.

All rhythms are some combination of triple meter and/or duple meter, and the possibilities are endless – from boogie to R&B to mambos and sambas and bossa novas and….on and on.

Harmony, the 3rd aspect of music, is the musical background of a song – the chords, or intervals “behind” the melody. Without harmony, a song sounds empty – like a vocalist singing without an accompanist – or accapella. Music doesn’t HAVE to have harmony to function, but in actual practice it almost always does, even if it is just the interplay of two melodies, as in counterpoint.

You could spend a lifetime learning all the nuances of music, but it its most basic form, it is these 3 elements combined together; melody, rhythm, and harmony.

3 quick easy steps to playing music by ear

Playing by ear is the ability to play a piece of music (or, eventually, learn an instrument) by simply listening to it repeatedly. The majority of self-taught musicians began their education this way; they picked up their instrument and began playing an easy melody from a well-known song, slowly picking out the notes as they went along. And even after these musicians master their instruments or a particular song, playing by ear still plays a large role. Many pop and rock bands don't play or write their songs based on sheet music, they figure the songs out by playing by ear. It's even common among non-musicians. Ever sit down a piano and mindlessly pick out the tune to "Mary Had a Little Lamb"? What about grabbing a guitar and suddenly finding yourself playing the opening licks to "Smoke on the Water"? That's playing by ear. You're able to play part of the song just because you've heard it so often.

Since music is basically composed of 3 elements – melody, rhythm, and harmony, it is logical that there are also 3 basic steps to learning to play music by ear:

1.Charting the contour of the melody. Tunes move higher and lower – up and down – as the song progresses. Being aware of that movement is the first step. Once you mentally define the parameters of the melody, you can then begin to hone in on picking it out on your instrument. As an example, think of “Joy To The World”. We’ve all sung it a zillion times, but have you ever noticed that the melody moves down exactly 8 steps (an octave), then gradually moves back up in increments, then repeats the down movement, etc. The entire melody is contained within those 8 notes, so you now know the parameters of the song and can begin to pick out the melody intelligently.

2.Harmonizing the melody with matching chords. The second element of music is harmony, and you can harmonize any melody just by matching the supporting chords to that melody. For example, if the melody is a “G”, you can harmonize that melody by using a chord with G in it, such as the G chord (G, B, D), the C chord (C, E, G), or the Em chord (E, G, B), or the Eb chord (Eb, G, Bb) and so forth. By using your ear to guide you, you can learn to harmonize the melody of most any song using matching chords.

3.Using an appropriate rhythm that matches the feel of the song. This is usually the easiest part, since most people “feel” the beat and don’t have to do any mental gymnastics to come up with an appropriate rhythm for a song. But for those of us that might be “rhythmically challenged”, just by knowing that there are basically two meters available – duple meter and triple meter -- that can be combined in infinite combinations, we can give the song either a “3” feeling (like a waltz or a jazz waltz) or a “4” feeling (like swing or a march or a ballad).

Playing by ear is a valuable technique for many musicians; learning songs based solely on hearing them is a great way to understand song and chord structure. In fact, a great number of rock and pop musicians learned to play their instruments this way. Instead of picking up a book or taking lessons, they concentrated on figuring out the notes and rhythms to a song until it was mastered. Then they moved on to another song. And another.

Gradually, they learned their instrument just by playing by ear -- and in the process learned how to effectively structure a song in that particular genre. Playing by ear is also beneficial in helping a musician develop his or her own style; sure, they'll at first mimic the style of the song they're imitating, but the amalgamation of the music that they're playing by ear will help them create something distinctive, something indicative of them only.

PENGENALAN GAMELAN

Nama Gamelan berasal dari bahasa Jawa yang bermaksud ditabuh atau dipukul. Ini mungkin kerana peralatan muzik gamelan tergolong dalam kumpulan alat perkusi yang dibunyikan dengan cara ditabuh atau dipukul. Alat muzik gamelan diperbuat daripada perunggu dan kayu, dan ada juga dari besi dan buluh. Alat-alatnya mempunyai larasan yang tetap atau ‘fixed tuning’. Permainan muzik gamelan dilakukan secara ensembel. Persembahannya hanyalah lengkap dan sempurna apabila dimainkan secara berkumpulan. Namun muzik gamelan juga boleh dipersembahkan secara tersendiri.

SEJARAH

Muzik gamelan dikatakan wujud semenjak T.M 1. alat gamelan yang pertama sekali dicipta ialah gong. Kemudian alat-alat yang lain dicipta mengikut peredaran zaman. Pada awal tamadun Melayu, gong merupakan alat yang penting dibunyikan sebagai tanda sesuatu upacara bermula atau sesuatu peristiwa berlaku. Pada zaman Pemerintahan Kerajaan Demak di Jawa, gamelan digunakan untuk berdakwah oleh ahli sunan (kiai). Kini gamelan dikenali di seluruh dunia sebagai muzik etnik yang unik yang mempunyai keistimewaannya tersendiri.

Gamelan dipercayai berasal dari Indonesia, tetapi terdapat juga alat gamelan yang serupa di negara jiran seperti Filipina, Thailand, Cambodia dan sebahagian Vietnam. Di antaranya Kulintangan di Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei, Mindanao dan Celebes. Namanya mungkin berbeza dari satu tempat ke tempat lain tetapi bentuk alat serta susunannya adalah lebih kurang sama.

Muzik gamelan Malaysia berasal dari Indonesia. Muzik gamelan dibawa dari Indonesia melalui penghijrahan orang Jawa semasa Empayar Sri Vijaya dan Majapahit dalam kurun ke-14 hingga 15. di Malaysia terdapat dua versi muzik gamelan iaitu Gamelan Johor dan Gamelan Terengganu.

Gamelan Johor/Gamelan Jawa:

Gamelan Jawa mempunyai latar belakang sejarah yang tersendiri. Kedatangan gamelan Jawa ke Malaysia adalah bersama kedatangan masyarakat Jawa ke Johor. Mereka memainkan gamelan mengiringi persembahan Wayang Kulit Purwa dan mengiringi tarian seperti Tarian Kifrah, Serimpi Lilin, Kupu-kupu dan Cakil. Alat-alat gamelan didapati digunakan bagi mengiringi Riog, Barungan dan Kuda Kepang. Muzik gamelan dipersembahkan di majlis perkahwinan, berkhatan dan sebagainya.

Gamelan jenis ini boleh didapati di Johor, Selangor dan Wilayah Persekutuan. Muzik gamelan Jawa berfungsi dalam kehidupan rakyat sebagai permainan rakyat dan bukannya terhad untuk persembahan istana.

Gamelan Terengganu.

Muzik gamelan Terengganu bermula apabila istana Pahang menerima set gamelan dari Riau-Lingga pada tahun 1800-an. Muzik ini pertama kali dimainkan sempena hari perkahwinan kerabat Di Raja Pahang dan Lingga pada tahun 1811. Muzik gamelan berkembang di Pahang dalam kurun ke 19.

Bagaimanapun kemajuan muzik gamelan di Pahang menjadi malap dengan kemangkatan Sultan Ahmad. Kemudian muzik gamelan tersebut dibawa ke Terengganu apabila puteri Sultan Ahmad berkahwin dengan Tengku Zainal Abidin dari Terengganu. Sejak itu, muzik gamelan dikenali di istana Terengganu. Dari segi tradisi, gemelan Terengganu adalah tradisi istana dan hanya dipersembahkan untuk hiburan kerabat di raja dan dalam upacara istana.

Muzik gamelan Terengganu mula dibawa keluar dari istana oleh Tan Sri Mubin Sheppard pada tahun 1970-an. Gamelan Terengganu kini banyak mengalami pengubahsuaian dan mempunyai ciri Melayu dan kini digelar gamelan Melayu khasnya bila dipersembahkan dalam majlis rasmi meraikan pembesar, tokoh politik luar negara dan pelancongan.

PERALATAN GAMELAN DAN SKIL

Muzik gamelan Terengganu adalah lebih mudah dibandingkan dengan muzik gamelan Johor/gamelan Jawa. Set alat gamelan Terengganu mengandungi 7 alat berikut:

Gamelan Terengganu dimainkan dalam skel slendro iaitu 5 ton. Jeda di antara not hampir sama iaitu lebih kurang berjarak suku ton.

Mengeluarkan pic paling rendah dan dimainkan pada akhir frasa lagu untuk menandakan satu pusingan lengkap lagu.

Mengeluarkan pic lebih tinggi daripada gong. Dalam Gamelan Terengganu, terdapat sesetangah lagu di mana gong kempol dimainkan pada detik pertama Contohnya, lagu Lenggang Kangkung dan detik keempat pada dua gatra akhir lagu, contohnya lagu Timang Burung.

Dalam permainan Gamelan Jawa gong kempol dimainkan pada detik kedua pada gatra kedua akhir sebelum gong menghabiskan satu pusingan lagu.

KENONG

Dimainkan pada detik keempat setiap gatra.

BONANG BARONG

Dalam Gamelan Terengganu, bonang barong digunakan untuk membuka lagu dan memainkan melodi . Manakala dalam Gamelan Jawa, bonang barong dimainkan untuk membuka lagu dan dimainkan bagi detik pertama dan ketiga dalam setiap gatra .

Cara memainkan bonang barong adalah dengan mengetuk bahagian tombol menggunakan pengetuk. Terdapat dua cara memainkan bonang barong iaitu secara mipil dan gembiang.

BONANG PENERUS

Dalam Permainan gamelan Jawa ,Bonang Penerus memainkan not sinkopasi (up-beat) di mana akan dimainkan secara ‘call and respon’ (soal jawab) kepada Bonang Barong. Manakala dalam permainan gamelan Terengganu, Bonang Penerus akan memainkan melodi seperti Bonang Barong. Bonang Penerus boleh juga dimainkan secara harmoni bersama Bonang Barong dengan cara membuat improvisasi irama dan melodi.

SARON PENERUS/PEKING

Dalam Permainan gamelan Terengganu, Saron Penerus adalah alat yang memainkan melodi utama yang diketuk menggunakan pengetuk yang dibuat daripada tanduk haiwan berbentuk penukul . Saron Penerus diketuk secara gandaan dan biasanya memainkan not kuaver.

SARON DEMUNG

Dalam Permainan gamelan Terengganu, Saron Demung adalah alat yang memainkan melodi utama yang diketuk menggunakan pengetuk yang dibuat daripada kayu berbentuk penukul . Untuk memainkan Saron Demung, hendaklah diketuk pada bilah-bilah gangsa/perunggu yang juga disebut sebagai wilaham. Dalam permainan gamelan Jawa, Saron Demung akan dimainkan pada detik kedua dan keempat.

SARON BARONG

Dalam Permainan gamelan Terengganu, Saron Barung adalah alat yang memainkan melodi utama yang diketuk menggunakan pengetuk yang dibuat daripada kayu berbentuk penukul . Untuk memainkan Saron Barung, hendaklah diketuk pada bilah-bilah gangsa/perunggu yang juga disebut sebagai wilaham. Dalam permainan gamelan Jawa, Saron Demung akan dimainkan pada detik kedua dan keempat.

GENDANG/KENDHANG

Gendang adalah alat yang dimainkan untuk mengawal tempo lagu dan dipukul dengan menggunakan dua tapak tangan.

GAMBANG

Gambang memainkan melodi lagu. Ia dimainkan dengan mengetuk notasi satu oktaf , contohnya 1 dan i, 2 dan 2’ secara gandaan, contohnya, 2/2’,3/3’. Biasanya gambang memainkan not kuaver.

NOTASI GAMELAN

Pada permulaannya, permainan gamelan dimainkan tanpa notasi. Notasi tidak penting dan lagu lama tidak dicatat. Muzik ini dipelajari secara tidak formal melalui pendengaran bermula dengan yang mudah dan beransur kepada kompleks. Pada abad ke-19, sistem menggunakan nombor diperkenalkan untuk memudahkan pemuzik memainkan ‘repetoire’/lagu yang telah banyak berkembang. Sistem menggunakan nombor ini dikenali sebagai Sistem Kepatihan dan sistem ini kekal digunakan sekarang.

TEKSTUR

Tekstur muzik gamelan adalah polifoni. Polifoni bermakna gubahan yang mempunyai banyak lapisan suara . Ciri utama muzik gamelan ialah bentuknya yang berulang . Setiap frasa diulang muziknya dan bergerak dalam bentuk bulatan. Permainan gamelan memerlukan kemahiran muzikal serta teknikal, perasaan yang peka kepada tekstur keseluruhan serta kerjasama dan hubungan yang baik di antara setiap alat atau pemain.

PENGENALAN KOMPANG

Kompang adalah sejenis alat muzik tradisional dari keluarga membranofon. Ia menyerupai sebuah kuali dan terbahagi kepada dua bahagian iaitu baluh (badan) dan belulang.
Baluh bingkai kompang diperbuat daripada kayu pokok nangka. Manakala belulang pula adalah daripada kulit kambing.

Permainan kompang terbahagi kepada beberapa jenis. Antara jenis-jenis kompang ialah:
a. Kompang Hadrah ( Negeri Perak )
b. Kompang Johor / Jawa
c. Kompang Eizhar ( Negeri Selangor )
d. Kompang Kelalang ( Negeri Melaka )

Kompang boleh diperolehi dalam saiz yang berlainan mengikut umur tertentu. Antara saiz kompang yang mengikut peringkat umur pemain adalah seperti berikut:

SEJARAH KOMPANG

Kompang dipercayai berasal dari Timur Tengah berdasarkan beberapa pendapat iaitu ;

Pendapat pertama:
Bentuknya sama dengan hadrah yang menyerupai kompang yang terdapat di negara Arab.
Pendapat kedua :
Lirik lagu yang dimainkan selalunya dalam bahasa Arab , contohnya Selawat Memuji Rasulullah SAW.

Permainan kompang dibawa oleh pedagang Arab yang datang berdagang ke Nusantara. Ia digunakan untuk menarik perhatian pembeli terhadap perniagaan mereka. Dipercayai permainan ini menjadi ikutan masyarakat tempatan dan seterusnya berkembang sehingga kini.
Manakala permainan kompang berkembang ke Tanah Melayu akibat imigrasi masyarakat Jawa. (Abdul Latif Ali,1980:12)

PEMBUATAN KOMPANG

FUNGSI KOMPANG

Persembahan kompang ini mempunyai pelbagai fungsi dan peranan. Pada asasnya, ia bertujuan untuk memeriahkan sesuatu upacara. Sungguhpun demikian, fungsi permainan ini turut mengalami perkembangan mengikut masa. Antara fungsi permainan kompang ialah;

1. Mengiringi aktiviti vokal seperti nyanyian solo atau kumpulan secara ensemble (nasyid, marhaban)

2. Mengarak pengantin, kanak-kanak berkhatan, berkhatam Quran, dan upacara rasmi yang melibatkan pembesar

3. Menjadi elemen permainan ensembel lain seperti orkestra, lagu etnik kreatif, cak lempong, cak lempong pacik dan gamelan.

4. Untuk merangsang semangat pasukan yang bertanding, contohnya pasukan bola sepak bagi memeriahkan acara sukan serta membuat gimik sorakan.

5. Pertandingan – paluan kompang dan kompang formasi

6. Permainan kompang biasanya dapat dilihat dan dimainkan oleh persatuan atau kumpulan dalam sesebuah kampung, sekolah-sekolah, pusat pengajian tinggi, yayasan kesenian negeri, serta institusi-institusi kerajaan bagi mengekalkan keaslian permainan muzik tradisional Melayu.

Persembahan kompang diketuai oleh seorang pemimpin. Tugas pemimpin ialah untuk memulakan dan menamatkan sesuatu permainan dengan arahan atau lakuan tertentu.

TEKNIK PERMAINAN

Pegang kompang dengan sebelah tangan sementara sebelah tangan lagi memukulnya. Kompang boleh dimainkan secara duduk atau berdiri. Pada asasnya, kompang menghasilkan dua bunyi iaitu ‘pak’ dan bunyi ‘bung’. Pukulan ‘pak’ mestilah lebih berat daripada bunyi ‘bung’.

Bunyi ‘pak’ dihasilkan apabila bahagian tengah kompang dipalu dengan tapak tangan sambil jari tangan terbuka. Kekuatan bunyi adalah hasil daripada pukulan tapak jari. Untuk menghasilkan bunyi yang tepat, sentuh tapak ibu jari dan jari anak mendahului jari yang lain semasa memukul.

Bunyi ‘bung’ dihasilkan apabila bahagian tepi permukaan kompang iaitu 1/3 daripada permukaan dipukul dengan jari. Manakala kesemua jari berkeadaan tertutup semasa membuat pukulan. Sila rujuk posisi dan cara memegang kompang.

POSISI PEMAIN KOMPANG

Permainan ini dipersembahkan secara beramai-ramai atau ensembel. Biasanya dimainkan oleh kira-kira 10 hingga 20 orang. Posisi pemain semasa persembahan kompang adalah sama ada secara duduk atau berjalan sambil berarak.

Terdapat tiga paluan digabungkan untuk menghasilkan paduan bunyi yang berharmoni. Tiga kumpulan paluan tersebut dipanggil Melalu, Meningkah dan Menyilang. Fungsi paluan ini adalah seperti berikut;

• Kumpulan Melalu memainkan rentak asas.

• Kumpulan Menyilang memainkan rentak silihan (up beat) kepada pukulan Melalu.

• Kumpulan Meningkah menjadi penghias rentak yang dimainkan paluan antara kumpulan Melalu dan Menyilang.

Setiap persembahan kompang terdiri dari tiga bahagian pukulan iaitu;

• Pukulan ‘Mula’ untuk memainkan sesebuah lagu

• Pukulan lagu dan

• Pukulan ‘Mati’ untuk mengakhiri sesebuah lagu.

PENJAGAAN KOMPANG

Kompang dalam simpanan seharusnya dikendurkan permukaannya. Sebelum memulakan permainan kompang, permukaannya perlu ditegangkan dengan sedak. Kompang yang basah seharusnya dijemur sehingga kering supaya tahan lebih lama.

Semasa dalam simpanan juga, kompang perlu diletakkan dengan berkeadaan muka kompang bertindan dengan permukaan lain dan disusun di rak atau almari yang sesuai. Ini untuk mengelakkan kerosakan muka kompang apabila ditindani oleh baluh kompang.

PENALAAN KOMPANG

Penalaan kompang bertujuan untuk meninggikan ton bunyi kompang dan menegangkan permukaannya dengan menggunakan sedak. Sedak boleh dibuat daripada rotan atau wayar plastik. Sedak ditolak dengan kayu sedak di sekeliling bahagian dalam, di antara baluh dan belulang kompang.

Pada hari tersebut,kami diminta berkumpul di Studio Tari untuk taklimat ringkas tentang produksi kami.Pada hari tersebut,saya hanya menyenaraikan alat-alat muzik tradisional yang akan digunakan seperti gamelan dan juga ghazal dan memeriksa setiap alat muzik tersebut untuk mengenalpasti alat muzik yang manakah yang rosak dan perlu diperbaiki.Setakat ini,saya mendapati alat-alat muzik seperti slentem dan melet saron penerus.Perkara ini telahpun saya melaporkannya pada Pengarah Muzik.

Selain itu,saya juga turut membantu pemuzik-pemuzik yang lain dalam mencari lagu untuk dimainkan pada setiap segmen.

Namun begitu, kami masih lagi kekurangan ahli muzik dan juga barang yang diperlukan untuk dijadikan alat muzik bagi segmen 1 tersebut.

How to Improvise Music

Are you a classically trained musician who would like to be able to play in situations without sheet music? Or maybe a beginning musician who wants to go straight to playing and skip learning to read music? Mastering musical improvisation is a nearly infinite task, but beginning to play could not be much simpler.

Difficulty: Moderate

Instructions

Step 1

Practice making noises with your instrument. Even if you are quite familiar with playing it, experiment with the range of different possible sounds, and how to make them.
Step 2

Practice playing songs by ear. Think of a tune you like and try to find the notes involved on your instrument. This is a great exercise to practice until you get really good at it, because imagining a tune in your head and being able to instantly guess the correct notes to play it is the main skill involved in improvising music.
Step 3

Play the same tune at different pitches, by starting on different notes. This is called playing the song in different keys. Try playing along with recorded music to get a further feel for this. Depending on the key of the music, some notes will sound harmonious and others will not. Memorizing scales is one way to learn to play well in different keys, but it is also possible to do it more intuitively.
Step 4

Make up your own tunes. If you have trouble doing this on your instrument, try by whistling or humming first. Don't worry about whether your tunes are any good at this point, just keep practicing. It is also good at this point to listen to improvised music, but remember that it's possible to improvise in many different styles, so if you don't like a certain type of recorded music, don't be discouraged.
Step 5

Move on to improvising tunes on your instrument. Again, try playing them in different keys. If you get notes that aren't quite what you were expecting, try to keep playing anyway. Stopping suddenly is one of the biggest mistakes of beginning improvisers, because if you keep playing you can often make your unintentional note seem intentional.
Step 6

Find some other musicians to practice with. Improvising in groups involves a lot of practice in listening to and responding to the other players, and the only way to get that experience is by doing it.

Hari ini bertempat di IOI Mall Kulai telah dijalankan pertandingan Suara Emas peringkat negeri Johor anjuran Unit Kokurikulum Jabatan Pelajaran Negeri Johor.

Pertandingan ini bertujuan untuk memilih penyanyi ke Konsert Diraja KPM yang akan berlangsung di PWTC pada 18 Jun 2009 dan Konsert Menjunjung Duli Sultan Johor pada bulan Mei nanti.

Pelajar-pelajar sekolah dari 10 buah daerah di negeri Johor ini telah menyertai pertandingan ini.

Latihan orkestra ini dijalankan pada aktiviti kesenian petang melibatkan semua pelajar bidang muzik mengikut instrumen pilihan masing-masing.

Terdapat 4 seksyen yang melibatkan seksyen Brass dan Perkusi ( di Studio Muzik 1), Woodwind (Studio Keyboard) dan Strings - (kelas 2 Masri).

Buku ini turut disertakan bersama DVD tentang teknik permainan dan juga latihan-latihan di dalam buku tersebut dalam bentuk audio ( iringan jmuzik).

Humanoid Robot's Appearance at Yo-Yo Ma Performance to Highlight DSO's Youth Music Programs

DETROIT, U.S.A., April 23, 2008– ASIMO will focus attention on the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's (DSO) nationally acclaimed music programs for young people in Detroit by conducting the orchestra as it performs "Impossible Dream" to open a special concert performance with renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma at 8 p.m, Tuesday, May 13. Honda hopes ASIMO's appearance will draw attention to the DSO's music education programs, and particularly the DSO's effort to encourage and support involvement of children in Detroit.

In addition, ASIMO will demonstrate its unique capabilities for hundreds of area school children at 10:45 a.m, May 14 prior to a specially arranged master class in Orchestra Hall, where a select group of music students will receive personal music instruction from Yo-Yo Ma. In attendance will be students from the Detroit School of Arts (DSA), Detroit Renaissance and Cass Technical high schools, as well as from schools across metro Detroit and Windsor, Canada.

ASIMO, which stands for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility, is designed to help people and will someday assist the elderly and disabled in their homes. But while Honda continues to develop and enhance ASIMO's capabilities, ASIMO is being used today to encourage and inspire young students to consider studies in math and science. The addition of music education to ASIMO's repertoire is a natural extension of these efforts.

As recently announced, Honda is providing the DSO with a gift of more than $1 million to create The Power of Dreams Music Education Fund. With the Detroit Public Schools drastically reducing or eliminating music programs due to financial constraints, many students are denied the opportunity to learn to play instruments, read music, and participate in bands or orchestras. Honda has partnered with the DSO to develop an innovative, multi-faceted program to promote and support music education as well as to promote diversity in the field of classical music. In addition to sponsorship of the YoYo Ma performance and Master's Class for students in May, over the next five years the Honda partnership with DSO will include:

·	Launch of a new initiative called The Power of Dreams String Project to provide introductory music education/string training to children in metro-Detroit communities where opportunities are non-existent or unaffordable.
·	Establishment of The Power of Dreams Music Scholar program to provide private lessons to aspiring students with financial need in the String Project, DSO Civic Ensembles and/or DSA, enabling them to fully develop their musical capabilities.
·	Support of DSO Civic Youth Ensemble performances; the DSO's educational partnership activities with the DSA; and the DSO's spring Educational Concert Series for metro area school children in Orchestra Hall at the Max M. Fisher Music Center.
·	Support of the 2008 Classical Roots Gala which raises funds for programs such as the DSO's African-American Fellowship Program.

Apa pun, kehebatan Lagu Untukmu yang digubah dan liriknya ditulis sendiri oleh ahli kumpulan ini iaitu Taja, Tass dan Lan ini tidak boleh dinafikan. Lagu ini mempunyai kekuatan yang tersendiri. Walaupun mempunyai persembahan yang ringkas tetapi vokal yang dilontarkan oleh vokalisnya cukup mantap. Sebagai juara, Meet Uncle Hussien membawa pulang wang tunai berjumlah RM25 ribu berserta trofi. Lagu ini juga menjuarai kategori Pop Rock yang menawarkan hadiah RM12 ribu berserta trofi.

Pentas AJL 23 juga menyaksikan kemenangan berganda kepada Faizal Tahir. Walaupun gagal meraihkan gelaran Juara Lagu 23, tetapi dia dinobatkan sebagai Vokal Terbaik, Persembahan Terbaik dan Juara Balada. Dengan ketiga-tiga kemenangan ini, Faizal bagaikan menebus kekecewaannya pada Anugerah Juara Lagu 22 lalu apabila tidak berpeluang membawakan lagu Mahakarya Cinta dan Kasih Tercipta kerana digam gara-gara aksi membuka bajunya. Pada malam ini Faizal membawa pulang wang berjumlah RM32 ribu berserta trofi.

Juara Etnik Kreatif pula menjadi milik lagu Persoalan Cinta, dendangan Farawahida, komposer Julfekar dan liriknya ditulis oleh Ku Seman dan Izza Rosley.

AJL 23 menyaksikan pertandingan 14 buah lagu oleh 13 artis-artis popular solo dan berkumpulan. Masing-masing berjaya mempamerkan kehebatan vokal dengan mengalunkan lagu-lagu yang dicipta oleh komposer dan penulis lirik terkenal melalui tiga kategori utama, Etnik Kreatif, Balada, dan Pop Rock.

Berkonsepkan Iluminasi Muzik , AJL 23 malam ini menerapkan sinaran dan keajaiban dalam acara yang gilang-gemilang. Pembukaan acara ini juga cukup menarik dengan persembahan stopping dance bersama nyanyian daripada One Nation Emcee.

Gandingan Ally Iskandar, Faizal Ismail dan Cheryl Samad sebagai pengacara juga tidak menghampakan kerana berjaya menghidupkan suasana. Usik-mengusik yang diselitkan oleh mereka berjaya menggamatkan ruang stadium.

Sebelum kemuncak, acara karpet merah telah diadakan pada jam 7.30 malam yang menyaksikan selebriti tanah air hadir dengan menggayakan busana rekaan pereka-pereka fesyen terkenal. Bagaimanapun acara karpet merah ini hanya boleh disaksikan di laman web www.tv3.com.my dan www.gua.com.my.

Sebagai tanda prihatin terhadap mangsa-mangsa perang di Gaza Palestin, TV3 turut mengedarkan tabung-tabung Fund For Gaza semasa majlis berprestij ini berlangsung. Sambil berhibur orang ramai yang bersimpati dan ingin menghulurkan bantuan boleh menyalurkan sumbangan ke tabung-tabung yang diletakkan di pintu-pintu masuk Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil.

IntelliScore Ensemble is the only product in the world that can listen to a musical audio file (CD, WAV,MP3, WMA) comprised of several different instruments and convert it to multiple track MIDI file containing the notes played, broken down by instrument.

Ensembles are a grouping of instruments that perform together to create a single piece of music.

Although intelliScore’s capabilities are revolutionary, to obtain best results you need to tell intelliScore what instruments are present in the original music. If desired, for higher accuracy, you may also specify the pitch range played by each instrument in the musical piece and which stereo channel it’s on. IntelliScore includes 28 ensembles to get you started, plus you can edit these or create your own.

If you use the proper recognition settings, intelliScore Ensemble can assign notes to the correct instrument track about 75% of the time. You can then use the included Anvil Studio or your own MIDI editing tool to clean up the results. Note that if the music contains two or more instruments that are very similar to each other, such as a violin and viola, intelliScore will have a harder time distinguishing between them, just like a human would. Also note that intelliScore does not recognize non-pitched instruments such as percussion; there is currently no product in existence that can.

Prior versions of intelliScore contained a feature known as patch maps. They appear similar to ensembles, in that they both contain a list of instruments, each with its own pitch range and stereo channel. However, the two function very differently behind the scenes. Prior versions of intelliScore could assign each detected note to a MIDI track based on its pitch and position in the stereo image. If a note fell into two or more pitch ranges, the same note would be assigned to multiple tracks. The Ensemble Edition, however, actually listens to the sound of each note and attempts to identify which instrument(s) produced that note.

How To Help Your New Musician Succeed On Their Instrument.
As a parent you have always done your best to give your child everything needed to succeed in life. By allowing your child to learn a new instrument and play in the school band you are adding another brick to a strong foundation that will support your child in all aspects of her development. Playing an instrument is not going guarantee that your child will one day be more successful than someone that is not in the school band, but the pride, confidence, and initiative that being a member of a team builds in young people will serve him the rest of his life. In order to ensure that this positive
growth occurs you as a parent need to take the lead and help your child develop good practice habits.

Every parent needs to set up a daily block of time during the afternoon or evening for their new band member to practice on their instrument. This practice time must be given the same weight and importance as would any other piece of homework. If you treat practice time in this manner, your new musician will also see it as important and will eventually work into a routine that will produce steady improvement. Make sure that the area your musician is practicing in is free from distractions. No TV, no radio, no iPods, just your new band student and his or her instrument. A good beginner practice session is twenty to thirty minutes each night. Don't let them count the time it takes to put their instrument together or clean it afterwards. Twenty minutes of practice means twenty minutes of playing time with lips on the instrument!

There are other
things that can negatively impact a new band student. One that comes up more often than I would like is when I hear a student tell me that ?Dad doesn't like it when I practice,? or ?I couldn't practice because my brother can't hear the TV while I'm playing.? On one occasion I actually had a student who was forced to go outside and practice in their barn with the horses IN THE WINTER! These kinds of situations kill any hope a student has of reaching his or her full potential as a musician and as a member of the school band.Do everything in your power to keep the experience or learning the instrument positive and enjoyable when at home.

Eventually the excitement of learning a new instrument will wear off, and this is the time that you as a parent must step in and rekindle the fire. Teachers know that the best possible way to learn something is to teach it to someone else. For a change of pace, why not have your band student teach you how to play a few notes on their instrument? Ask them to teach you how to put it together, how to clean it, how to place the lips on the mouthpiece, how to sit up with good posture and horn position, how to get a good tone, etc. By doing these things you will show your new band student that you are interested in what they are doing and that you are proud of them for working so hard. Being in the school Band is meant to be a positive experience, but that positive experience must continue at home as well for true learning and a love of music to develop.

Strumming Patterns For Guitar

As there are many different picking techniques, and any number of chord inversions, there are different strumming patterns for guitar. A list of strumming patterns is nearly impossible to define, as there are variations from jazz patterns all the way to country strumming patterns (and every style in between) that go well beyond the usual guitar strumming patterns. As many players as there are, you can be assured new strumming guitar techniques, as well as guitar strumming tricks will be invented to challenge the old patterns. Learning guitar chords strumming or just the basics of strumming the guitar could take a few months, but years to master.

Basic strumming patterns is where this all starts. Down strokes or up strokes, it is imperative you keep the rhythm steady (unless of course you want a slower or different strum on your opposing direction). Sometimes within the same stroke you might slow down or speed up, but these are beyond the basic strumming patterns. In fact there are those basic strumming patterns where you don?t even attempt opposing down-strokes and upstrokes, just a nice steady flow with a flick of your wrist in one direction.

No matter what stroke you are trying, what level of skill you have, the motion with guitar and strumming should come from the rotation of your wrist. Overall it is best not to stiffen your wrist stiff when strumming (even picking).

There are some differences in strumming a guitar, based on the type of guitar you play. Strumming patterns for acoustic guitar can often become very percussive; there is a lot of bouncing off the strings. In some ways the acoustic makes guitar strumming tricks easier and the flourishes you manage might seem very showy because of the big sound you can get by moving your wrist fast across the acoustic sound hole.

But at the same time, placement of your hand is very important when trying various strumming patterns for this type of guitar; no matter how you are strumming the guitar you get the best results by playing directly over that sound hole.

Guitar strumming techniques for electric can be different, but basically it is still up to how well you move your wrist?and where you strum. The pick-ups in an electric guitar (or an acoustic with pick-ups) allow you to play at various places over the body of the instrument. Strumming the guitar close to or away from pickups, even choosing to play over one pick-up instead of another alter the sound of even the most basic strumming patterns.

As a magician might claim, it really is ?all in the wrist?. By regulating your speed during guitar strumming, adding some guitar strumming tricks like hammers and pull-off?s, and even actually lifting your hand from the guitar, you can introduce whole new strumming patterns into your playing. The trick really is to keep the motion consistent and your wrist placed correctly (and your pick held tightly (if you are using a pick). The dexterity and speed you will gain in practicing a good steady strum will help you even as much or more so, then the scales you can run off. There are a bunch of good lead players out there, in fact almost everyone who picks up an electric guitar wants to play lead, but how many players do you know even know the most basic country strumming patterns, or how many of us can keep up a consistent, odd timed rhythm through an entire song?

Guitar strumming is a basic of playing the instrument.

Persembahan Seni Muzik Bersamamu Gaza

Hari ini pelajar dari bidang kesenian membuat persembahan mereka untuk program Hari Bersamamu Gaza.

Pelajar dari bidang muzik membuat persembahan nyanyian lagu ciptaan oleh Munirah Musa, Khalilah, dan Aidilla yang dipersembahkan secara live oleh band

Sungguh menarik sekali persembahan yang ditunjukkan oleh kumpulan ini. Sehingga memukau para hadirin dan mendapat tepukan yang gemuruh.

Lagu ini telah dihasilkan liriknya oleh Aidilla dan Munirah manakala, muziknya digubah oleh Khalilah yang berentak R&B .

Walaupun muzik lagu ini agak rancak tetapi penyanyi bagi lagu ini iaitu Aidillah dan Nurul Syazliana dapat menyampaikannya dengan ekspresi sedih yang berkait rapat dengan lirik lagu tersebut.

Tahniah kepada anda semua. Teruskan berkarya.

Selanjutnya persembahan khas daripada Ayahnda Rahman dengan iringan keyboard oleh aku turut menggemparkan para peminat-peminatnya di SSJB ini.

Persembahan nyanyian yang sungguh bertenaga dan penuh ekspresi berjaya ditunjukkan oleh penyanyi berbakat ini. Beliau berjaya menjiwai lagu ini sepenuhnya dengan bantuan multimedia paparan suasana kesengsaraan anak-anak Palestin di layar di hadapan semua pelajar dan guru-guru sangat berkesan dihati mereka.

Di samping itu marilah kita sama-sama sedekahkan Al-Fatihah kepada roh mangsa-magsa kekejaman Yahudi di Gaza.

Malam Gala Kesenian - Seni Visual

Salah satu daripada aktiviti menghasilkan catan bertemakan P.Ramlee oleh pelajar-pelajar Seni Visual. Pelajar seperti Mohd. Nabil, Fatin Nurain, Syed Mohd Hizrin, Amzar, Syazwan, dan lain-lain lagi nama yang tak disebutkan di sini sedang asyik menghasilkan karya mereka.

Teknik yang digunakan dalam penghasilan karya ini adalah seperti installation art, relief art, kolaj, dan paper art. Kesemua ini telah diaplikasikan oleh pelajar-pelajar tersebut dengan bimbingan jurulatih Seni Visual iaitu Mohd Zain.

Ternyata hasil karya pelajar-pelajar ini sangat bermutu tinggi dan berbeza dengan karya pelajar-pelajar yang seumur dengan mereka di sekolah-sekolah lain.

Hasil karya ini telah dipamerkan semasa Majlis Malam Gala Kesenian bertempat di Aras Satu Auditorium RTM Johor Bahru pada 2 November 2008 yang lalu.

Setiap pagi semasa sesi perhimpunan kecil minggu ini telah diadakan satu program bertemakan keganasan Yahudi di Palestin.

Slot yang dinamakan "Bersamamu Gaza" melibatkan wakil pelajar-pelajar dari semua bidang Kesenian.

Pada hari ini wakil dari Seni Teater dan Seni Tari telah bergabung tenaga dalam persembahan yang menarik iaitu Deklamasi Sajak Panjang Untuk Palestin.

Berhentilah membaca jika tidak ada perasaan
kasih dan sayang terhadap Al-Aqsa..

Majlis Pendaftaran Pelajar Tingkatan 1/2009 telahpun seperti yang dirancangkan. Majlis ini turut sama dihadiri oleh Pn Mahani Kassim (KPP BSSK) yang melihat sendiri bagaimana perjalanan proses pendaftaran dan memberikan taklimat berkaitan Sekolah Seni ini kepada para ibubapa dan penjaga.

Ibubapa serta pelajar baru telah mula hadir untuk mendaftarkan anak mereka sejak daripada pukul 10.00 pagi lagi.

Setelah pendaftaran anak mereka selesai, hadirin berpeluang untuk menyaksikan bakat-bakat seni pelajar-pelajar senior. Semua penglibatan pelajar akan dijadikan eviden atau salah satu daripada bahan bukti untuk pentaksiran Band Pendidikan Kesenian.

Minggu Orientasi Salam Perkenalan

Minggu Orientasi atau Program Salam Perkenalan telah dijalankan pada sepanjang minggu ini.
Program ini bertujuan untuk memberi pendedahan kepada pelajar-pelajar baru untuk mengenali budaya dan suasana di sekolah ini.

Selain itu sesi taklimat oleh pihak pentadbir, guru akademik, kaunselor dan jurulatih kesenian turut dijalankan kepada pelajar tersebut .

Program ini dijalankan pada sesi pagi sebelum waktu rehat. Selepas itu kelas dijalankan seperti biasa.

Mesyuarat Penggubah Konsert DiRaja KPM 2009

Hari ini aku telah menghadiri satu mesyuarat panel penggubah lagu untuk Konsert Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia 2009 di Putrajaya.

Meyuarat telah dipengerusikan oleh En. Aznan bin Md Natar Pen Pengarah bhgn Ko Kurikulum. Mesyuarat telah membincangkan mengenai senarai lagu yang akan dipersembahkan, penetapan penggubah utk setiap lagu dan key lagu tersebut.

Selain daripada itu, beberapa orang penyanyi yang telah dikenalpasti bakat dan kebolehannya juga telah ditetapkan oleh pihak panel penggubah manakala satu sesi ujibakat akan diadakan untuk pemilihan penyanyi dan pemuzik yang lain.

Berlainn dengan konsert-konsert sebelum ini, pada kali ini tiada tema khusus. Konsert adalah berkonsep konsert DiRaja.

Konsert KPM pada tahun ini akan dijalan kan di Dewan Merdeka PWTC nanti.

Kepada ibubapa atau penjaga sila gunakan pintu Asrama Pusat untuk terus ke Sekolah Seni Johor Bahru iaitu di bahagian belakang pintu utama SMK Mohd Khalid dan sila letakkan kereta anda di tempat letak kereta yang disediakan Pendaftaran pelajar adalah bermula dari jam 10.00 hingga 12.30 tengahari

Lawatan Sambil Belajar ke Kelantan dan Terengganu

Aktiviti lawatan sambil belajar ke Pantai Timur ini melibatkan semua pelajar SSJB dan guru. Jumlah yang pergi ke sana adalah seramai 150 orang.

Pihak sekolah telah menggunakan perkhidmatan 4 buah bas persiaran.
Kami bertolak dari SSJB pada pukul 5.00 petang lewat 2 jam kerana terdapat masalah yang perlu diselesaikan oleh En. Jabar di Balai Polis.

Kami tiba di Mersing untuk makan malam dan solat jamak kira2 jam 9.00 malam.
Waktu makan telah mengambil masa kira-kira satu setengah jam kerana tokeh warong terpaksa membuat tempahan seramai 150 orang .

Kami seterusnya bertolak dan pemandu bas berhenti di Bukit Besi kira2 setengah jam untuk mereka berehat pada pukul 4.00 pagi.

Seterusnya kami bersolat subuh di Masjid Sg. tong pada pukul 6.00 pagi dan sampai di tempat penginapan pada pukul 8.30 pagi.

Tapi sayang rakaman daripada Video sekolah kurang dari segi mutunya. Adalah diharapkan kepada mereka yang telah membuat rakaman video dapat menghantarkannya kepada pihak sekolah untuk dibuat satu DVD yang telah diedit. Sebagai jurulatih muzik, aku amat berbangga dengan persembahan pelajar yang memainkan peranan yang besar sepanjang perjalanan produksi dalam bentuk , nyanyian, muzik latar, gabungan muzik gamelan yang memukau penonton, iringan muzik untuk kumpulan koir semuanya dimainkan secara 'live'.

Memandangkan auditorium RTM tersebut telah ditempah pada hari Sabtu dan cuma hari ini shaja yang free maka kami telah menjalankan raptai ini.

Tujuannya adalah untuk membuat penentuan kedudukan setiap acara persembahan, laluan pelajar semasa persembahan, sistem audio, lighting, pengacara, susunan props dan sebagainya.

Pn Siti Hajar turut membantu memberikan pandangannya terhadap persembahan pelajar SSJB.

Hari ini pelajar-pelajar meneruskan latihan persembahan untuk MGK.

Turut hadir dalam latihan ini adalah Dr Siti Hajar yang memberikan tips-tips yang sangat-sangat berguna kepada pelajar yang akan membuat persembahan nanti.

Di antara tips yang dikongsi oleh beliau adalah cara mengatasi perasaan gemuruh, bagaimana untuk mempbuat persembahan dengan konfiden, bagaimana untuk membuat lontaran suara, teknik vokal, teknik conducting , latihan koir dan showmanship.

Dr Siti Hajar ini adalah seorang pejuang seni yang sangat dikagumi dan berpengalaman luas dalam bidang muzik di negara kita dan beliau suka untuk menyampaikan ilmu yang ada padanya kepada sesiapa sahaja.

Selain itu, beliau turut memberikan kata-kata nasihat, perangsang dan motivasi yang sangat berguna kepada semua pelajar.

Persembahan Gamelan Sempena Festival Tari Malaysia Peringkat Negeri Johor

Selesai sahaja Majlis Sambutan Hari Raya SSJB, Kumpulan Gamelan SSJB telah bersiap untuk membuat persembahan di Auditorium RTM, Johor Bahru bersempena dengan Festival Tari Malaysia Peringkat Negeri Johor.

Di samping itu, 40 pelajar SSJB turut dijemput untuk menyaksikan pertandingan tersebut. Itulah untungnya bila sekolah dekat dengan RTM. Senang nak pergi bila ada aktiviti kesenian dijalankan di sana.

Majlis Sambutan Hari Raya Aidilfitri

Hari ini warga SSJB telah mengadakan satu majlis rumah terbuka Aidilfitri.

Majlis ini telah turut dihadiri oleh En. Jalaludin bin Othman (Timbalan Pengarah Dasar dan Pembangunan Sukan BSSK), En. Md Hasidin bin Zaini (Ketua Sektor Pengurusan Sekolah JPN Johor, En Saliman Selamat (Wakil PPD JB), Pn Rawiyah Mustafa Kamal (Ketua Unit Seni BSSK), Cik Hajah Roahana Ismail (Pengetua SSJB) dan pengerusi PIBG.

Majlis ini dijalankan di Dewan makan Asrama, bermula dari jam 12.30 tengah hari. Apa yang menariknya, bagi ibu bapa pelajar yang tinggal di Kuala Lumpur dan sekitarnya telah datang dengan menyewa bas atas usaha En Jazlan selaku NYDP PIBG.

Majlis turut diserikan dengan persembahan muzik dan tarian di samping DJ corner yang dikendalikan oleh ayahnda Khairul Anuar.

Makanan yang disediakan secara buffet terdiri daripada pelbagai jenis menu seperti lontong, soto, sate, laksa johor dan nasi beriyani.

Selain itu, ibubapa tidak melepaskan peluang mereka untuk turut mengadakan pertemuan dengan guru-guru untuk berbincang dan mengetahui perkembangan anak-anak mereka yang berlajar di SSJB ini.

Majlis turut dimeriahkan lagi dengan acara karaoke oleh Pn Siti Hajar dan ibubapa, guru dan pelajar.

Sesi ujibakat pengambilan pelajar ke tingkatan satu tahun 2009 melibatkan kira2 1400 orang pelajar dari seluruh Malaysia akan dijalankan dari 22 hingga 26 September.

Ujibakat adalah mengikut zon-zon negeri yang telah ditetapkan iaitu Zon Selatan, Tengah, Utara, Timur, Sabah dan Sarawak.

Bagi pelajar yang terlibat diharap datang bersama salinan2 sijil aktiviti dan peralatan yang berkaitan dengan bidang yang hendak ditemuduga.

Sebagai contoh, bagi bidang muzik sila bawa CD minus one dan instrumen yang hendak dimainkan seperti gitar, flute.
Kibod disediakan.

Satu taklimat kepada ibubapa mengenai sekolah seni akan diberikan sebelum sesi temuduga dijalankan.

KLASIFIKASI ALAT MUZIK

Beberapa jenis klasifikasi telah digunakan bagi mengkelaskan alat-alat muzik berdasarkan ciri-ciri tertentu. Dalam tamadun China purba, semua alat muzik dapat diklasifikasikan mengikut bahan utama yang digunakan dalam pembuatan alat muzik tersebut. Antara bahan tersebut ialah logam, batu, tanah, belulang, sutera, labu, buluh dan kayu.Tamadun India purba pula mengumpulkan alat muzik mengikut klasifikasi gong / simbal, gendang, alat bertali dan alat yang ditiup. .

Digunakan khusus bagi alat muzik orkestra barat. Terdapat 4 klasifikasi alat iaitu percussions, strings, brass dan woodwind.

Percussions / perkusi

Alat muzik yang dimainkan secara pukulan, paluan, ketukan atau goncangan.

Antara alat muzik ini termasuklah timpani, pelbagai jenis dram, simbal, kerincing, tamborin dan lain-lain. Alat muzik berpic pula termasuklah zailofon, metalofon, glokenspil dan bellyre.

Strings / alat muzik bertali

Digunakan untuk mengklasifikasikan semua jenis alat muzik bertali iaitu violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, harps dan lain-lain.

Brass

Klasifikasi alat tiupan yang dibuat daripada logam.

Contoh brass ialah trumpet, trombon, french horn, tuba dan sausafon.

Woodwind

Alat muzik tiupan yang pada masa dahulunya dibuat dari bahan kayu. Kebanyakan alat ini menggunakan reed bagi menghasilkan bunyi. Reed dibuat daripada buluh yang diraut nipis. Antara alat muzik woodwind ialah klarinet, saksofon, flut, pikolo, oboe dan basun. Hari ini adalah juga alat muzik woodwind yang dibuat daripada logam, plastik dan bahan gentian kaca.

Klasifikasi Sachs - Hornbostel

Klasifikasi ini diperkenalkan oleh Curts Sachs dan Eric Von Hornbostel pada 1914. Ia bertujuan mengklasifikasi pelbagai alat muzik etnik dari seluruh dunia yang tidak termasuk dalam klafikasi alat muzik orkestra barat.

Sachs-Hornbostel mengklasifikasikan alat muzik berdasarkan kasifikasi yang terdapat dalam kitab catatan India puba Natyasastra iaitu Idiofon, Kordafon, Membranofon dan Erofon.

Idiofon

Alat muzik yang dibuat daripada bahan logam, kayu, buluh dan tempurung termasuk dalam klasifikasi idiofon. Biasanya ia dimainkan dengan cara pukulan, hentakan, goncangan dan ketukan. Antara alat muzik yang termasuk dalam klasifikasi ini ialah gong, saron (gamelan) bonang (caklemlong) kenong (gamelan) angklung, gambang, kertuk dan lain-lain..

Erofon

Alat muzik yang ditiup termasuk dalam klasifikasi erofon. Contoh alat ialah serunai dan bangsi (caklempong), sakuhachi (Jepun), nafiri (Nobat) dan lain-lain.

Kordofon

Alat muzik bertali, contohnya gambus, uds, koto, shamishen, sitar dan sharinggi.

Membranofon

Mengambil nama dari perkataan membran (kulit) pula ialah klasifikasi untuk alat muzik yang diperbuat daripada kulit yang diregang. Antaranya ialah gendang, kompang, geduk, daiko, tabla dan gedombak.

Elektrofon

Alat muzik yang menggunakan elektrik. Pembesaran suara – penggunaan sirkit-sirkit elektronik bagi tujuan mengubah bunyinya.

Sebagai contoh : Gitar elektrik, kibod, digital piano.

Lawatan Pelajar Jepun

Hari ini seramai 22 orang pelajar sekolah dari Narita, Jepun telah membuat lawatan ke SSJB.
Mujur salah seorang daripada jurulatih kita, iaitu En Abdul Jabar adalah merupakan seorang guru bahasa Jepun di Sek Sains Raub, Pahang sebelum menjadi jurulatih Seni Tari.

Maka beliaulah yang telah banyak membantu sekolah dalam mengatur program lawatan tersebut.
Selain berperanan sebagai juruacara berbahasa Jepun, beliau juga menterjemahkan perkataan-perkataan yang kami tidak faham.

Pada lawatan tersebut pelajar-pelajar telah menunjukkan persembahan kebudayaan yang dimulakan oleh sambutan paluan kompang dan gerakan silat semasa ketibaan rombongan dari Jepun itu.

Di Dewan Mini pula, pelajar-pelajar SSJB telah membuat persembahan seperti tarian zapin, tarian kontemporari, gamelan, lagu Jepun (Mi-raei) dan persembahan kumpulan ghazal.

Sebelum itu Cik Hjh Rohana telah memulakan majlis dengan ucapan bagi menyambut kedatangan rombongan dari Jepun ini.

Pelajar Jepun pula turut menunjukkan bakat mereka dalam kesenian dengan menunjukkan demonstrasi Karate, Koir, dan origami.

Selepas majlis sambutan selesai, pelajar telah dipecahkan kepada beberapa kumpulan dan aku ditugaskan untuk memberi tunjuk ajar tentang permainan gamelan dibantu oleh pelajar dari kelas 2 Zapin.

Sungguh mengkagumkan aku, yang mereka memang fast learner, dah boleh main lagu Timang burung dalam masa 10 minit aje aku ajar.

Memang music is universal, yang penting ada skor dan faham apa yang aku nak sampaikan walaupun budak jepun tu sepatah haram pun tak paham bahasa inggeris.

Kadang-kadang guna bahasa isyarat aje. Yang penting teknik mengajar kot.

Pada penghujung lawatan, pelajar ssjb dan pelawat makan bersama dan pihak pelawat dai Jepun telah menanam pokok sebagai kenangan lawatan mereka ke sekolah ini.

Majlis penutup diakhiri dengan pertukaran cenderamata dan tarian pelajar jepun (bon ondori) manakala pelajar ssjb telah menyampaikan finale iaitu sebuah lagu jepun nyanyian Diana Adha iaitu "Sakuyaki" berentak bosanova dan rasa sayang beramai-ramai.

Persembahan Pelajar di luar sekolah

Mesyuarat Pengurusan Sekolah Seni yang dihadiri oleh Pengetua SSJB pada hari Rabu lepas telah membuat ketetapan bahawa pelajar-pelajar sekolah seni tidak lagi dibenarkan untuk membuat persembahan kesenian di luar sekolah anjuran pihak-pihak swasta dan individu.

Walaubagaimanapun untuk majlis-majlis yang dianjurkan oleh pihak Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia, pelajar-pelajar dibenarkan untuk membuat persembahan. (secara percuma lah tu)

Mesyuarat juga telah memutuskan pihak MSN telah menempah kumpulan persembahan daripada SSJB dalam acara-acara yang akan dijalankan oleh pihak mereka seperti Majlis anugerah dan sebagainya.

Anugerah Kecemerlangan Sukan KPM 2007

Pada 31 Julai 2008 bertempat di Dewan Seri Endon Puspanitasari, Putrajaya, seramai 55 orang pelajar dari SSJB telah diberi kepercayaan penuh untuk membuat persembahan sempena majlis anugerah tersebut.

Anugerah tersebut dijalankan bagi mengiktiraf sumbangan dan kecemerlangan para atlet di kalangan warga Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia bagi tahun 2007. Anugerah ini adalah merupakan anugerah tahunan ke-50 anjuran bersama Milo.

Anugerah disampaikan oleh Tn. Hj Zulkifly bin Mohd Wazir, Pengarah Bahagian Pengurusan Sekolah Harian yang mewakili Dato Dr Ir Wee Kah Siong Timbalan Menteri Pelajaran Malaysia.

Persembahan pelajar SSJB telah mendapat pujian yang tinggi daripada mereka yang hadir terutamanya para pegawai BSSK.

Kumpulan Akartari telah mempersembahkan sebuah taridra yang mengisahkan tentang perjuangan para atlet dalam mengharungi pelbagai dugaan dan kepayahan untuk mencapai kecemerlangan dalam bidang sukan yang diceburi.

Persembahan ini telah diiringi oleh kumpulan pemuzik kontemporari SSJB dalam bentuk persembahan gamelan moden.

Persembahan nyanyian yang turut dipersembahkan adalah:

Persembahan Kumpulan Ghazal Persidangan Pengetua Kebangsaan

Pada 28 Julai yang lalu, kumpulan muzik Ghazal dari SSJB telah membuat persembahan semasa jamuan makan malam bersempena dengan Majlis Persidangan Pengurusan Kebangsaan Pengetua-pengetua Sekolah Menengah Malaysia.

Majlis tersebut telah diadakan di The Zon Regency dan turut dihadiri oleh Timbalan Menteri Pelajaran Malaysia Dato Dr. Ir. Wee Kah Siong serta pegawai-pegawai dari KPM dan pengetua-pengetua dari seluruh negara.

Kumpulan Ghazal SSJB telah menunjukkan satu persembahan yang baik dari segi kualiti dan mutunya memandangkan ia baru sahaja ditubuhkan.

Beberapa lagu seperti Seri Mersing, Penawar Rindu, Joget Menggoda Hati, Aladom dan lain-lain lagi telah dinyanyikan oleh penyanyi-penyanyi ghazal SSJB iaitu Nurul Syazliana, Liyana Syafini dan Aaina Soraya.

Persembahan turut dijayakan oleh penari-penari dari sekolah-sekolah di sekitar Johor Bahru, Johor.

Mesyuarat di Sek Seni Kuching, Sarawak

Pada 21-24 Julai lalu aku ke Sekolah Seni Kuching, Sarawak untuk menghadiri satu mesyuarat berkaitan peperiksaan .

Sekolah Seni Kuching adalah merupakan salah satu daripada dua sekolah seni di Malaysia yang diwujudkan oleh kerajaan Malaysia bagi memberi saluran kepada pelajar yang mempunyai bakat dan potensi di dalam bidang kesenian untuk mendalami bidang kesenian yang mereka minati.

Semasa kedatangan kau ke sana, rakan-rakan jurulatih dan ketua bidang muzik sibuk mengendalikan satu projek besar Jabatan Pelajaran Sarawak iaitu Konsert Syukor Tuan Yang Terutama Negeri Sarawak.

Konsert tersebut menggabungkan guru-guru dan pelajar-pelajar dari seluruh negeri Sarawak. Konsert ini adalah ala-ala Konsert Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia yang diadakan pada setiap tahun pada peringkat nasional.

Projek yang julung-julung kalinya diadakan ini menurut En. Reduan Taha, Ketua Bidang Seni Muzik dan selaku konduktor konsert adalah merupakan benchmark atau penanda aras yang akan menentukan sama ada konsert ini akan diteruskan pada tahun-tahun akan datang atau hanya akan diadakan setakat tahun ini sahaja sekiranya persembahan tidak berjaya.

Tapi rasanya berdasarkan pengamatan aku semasa mengikuti sesi latihan yang dijalankan di Dewan Undangan Negeri Sarawak pada hari itu, Konsert tersebut akan mencapai kejayaan seperti yang diharapkan.

When you're just starting out learning the electric guitar you don't need one like Jimmy Hendrix would play, but you still need to get your hands on an electric guitar that will be adequate for the beginner. And if that's you then there's a few things that you need to know about electric guitars that may help in understanding a little more about them.

First thing to remember about buying your first electric guitar is that you don't need to spend hundreds of thousands to do so. Be happy with a cheap electric guitar while you're learning, and maybe once you hit the big time spend up big. However a cheap electric guitar will do the job for the first few years.

You also need to know exactly what style of music you will be playing on your guitar. Different styles of music require different styles of electric guitar. You need a different guitar to play rock, for example, to the guitar you'd buy if you were playing jazz.

So spend a little time researching the types of electric guitar that should be used by different music styles.

And there's a few unusual terms you'll need to become familiar with if you're buying an electric guitar for the first time. Here's a taste.

Pickups.

The pickup is a magnet with a coil of wire wrapped around it placed right under the strings. This receives the vibrations of the strings and turns these into an electric signal for the amp to use. There are 2 types of pickup. The single coil, which produces a sound that sounds good for playing rock, blues and country. Humbuckers are a pickup with 2 coils next to each other that produces a warmer sound which is great for metal and rock in particular. Some guitars have a combination of single coils and humbuckers, and there is usually at least 2 pickups utilized.

Bridge.

The bridge is where the strings connect to the body of the guitar. You can have a fixed bridge or a Vibrato bridge which allows you to move the bridge to tighten or loosen the strings. The fixed bridge is better for beginners who can graduate to a Vibrato bridge after they've mastered the basics.

Hollow body electric guitars are the second basic style of guitar. These, as the name suggests, have a hollow body although there is also a variation of this which is the semi hollow. As the player plays his guitar the hollow space helps the body resonate which produces a quite distinctive sound. These are good guitars for jazz. These hollow body guitars also utilize pickups, including single coil and humbucker.

That's really just the start when it comes to understanding electric guitars, and for the enthusiast it's a lifetime job learning all there is to know about them. And finding out exactly what it is that you need to play to produce exactly the sound you want to produce. That's part of the fun of playing the guitar, it's a constant learning process, not just about how to play but what to play as well.

However remember, the most important piece of advice. If you're a beginner don't spend up big the first time. Buy yourself a cheap electric guitar first, then learn to play that and take it from there. It's the best way to kick off your rock star career.

When you first get your used musical instrument, whether it is a guitar, piano or trombone, you’re going to need to practice on it if you want to play it without people laughing at you.

Practice is not something that can be done occasionally. It is something that has to be done on a regular basis. The world of rock and roll and other popular music genres is littered with men and women who practiced constantly to become the ideal that they could on an instrument.

Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin didn’t just become great on the guitar, he’d to practice constantly. Elton John did not just become great on the piano, he had to practice on a regular basis.

This is what it means to be great in music. It means working to ensure you practice every day, often for several hours a day.

Unless you plan on being in a boy band, your dreams of musical stardom are tied directly to how hard you want to work to make something work and make yourself a rock god.

It isn’t easy to do, but no one stated success was an simple thing to achieve. It is a long process of practicing and heartache. Sometimes it will pay off, other times it will not, but regardless of whether or not you become famous or simply play in a band at banquets, practicing at something regularly means you’ll develop discipline and commitment. This is incredibly important and can help you throughout your life.

Practicing is so important to music that those who don’t practice can never hope to accomplish superstardom. Even lead singers have to practice their voice so they don’t sound like a bad American Idol contestant in front of their fans. Practice makes perfect, and perfection is the only thing that’ll take your band, and yourself, to the next level.

When you choose to take up a musical instrument, or your child begins playing one, the most important part of learning is practice. There’s no point in playing an instrument if you select to only practice once per month. You need to take the time to learn everything you can about the instrument, because only through practice can you become good at it.

Through practice, your self-esteem will rise, you will feel more confident and you’ll be proud of the fact that you decided to work hard to make yourself adept on an instrument. It is a long-term commitment, and for many, the success they feel at the end when they have the ability to play with ease is worth any amount of cash they may make in the future.

How to Improve Piano Sight Reading

To play a piece of music you have never seen before takes a great deal of skill. So how is it, some musicians can do this easily such as session musicians and others such as non professional players of all standards find sight reading so difficult.

Don't confuse learning to play a piece with sight-reading a piece

Many players confuse learning and playing a piece of music with sight-reading. You also have to learn how to sight read and this is completely different from learning to play a piece of music. To sight read successfully does not necessarily mean playing the piece note for note but to get through the piece from start to finish, in time, that means no slow downs or speed ups, perfect time.

Stopping and starting

As a professional musician you do not have the luxury of stopping and starting as many non professional players do, and there are a great deal of very good amateur players that keep stopping and starting because they don't have the discipline of a good sight reader.

Learn to sight-read

The best way to learn how to sight read is to find a piece of music you have never seen before, start playing at the beginning and don't stop, until to reach the end. Yes, there will be mistakes and that is part of the learning process. You are learning to sight-read. It is a discipline that professionals are forced to use and unfortunately, amateurs just don't get. They have to play everything perfectly, which means lots of practice on just one piece of music.

The more music you sight read the better you will understand music phrases you have never seen before, the more music phrases you play the better you will get, the better you get the easier the sight reading becomes. It's a vicious circle, it's a great discipline and it will force you to use all of your music knowledge.

Teater Kasih Teja di Muara Muar

Akhirnya pelajar-pelajar SSJB telah berjaya membuktikan kehebatan mereka kepada para penonton Teater Kasih Teja Di Muara Muar yang berlangsung di Dataran Bandaraya JB pada 12 dan 13 Julai lalu.

Ramai yang memuji mutu persembahan teater muzikal yang ditunjukkan, malah persembahan yang berlangsung selama kira-kira 2 jam setengah itu langsung tidak membosankan kerana penuh dengan adegan yang digarap dengan begitu baik pada setiap plot penceritaan.

Itulah kehebatan Dean Manas pengarah Teater ini dibantu oleh semua produksi iaitu koreografer, make up artist, Sound engineer, lighting , Music director dan stage manager. Aku sebagai jurulatih muzik kepada pemuzik SSJB pun turut rasa tak puas dan rasa nak perform lagi. 2 jam setengah tu tak terasa lama pun.

Persembahan teater tersebut telah berjaya memukau para penonton yang dianggarkan seramai 1500 orang penonton dalam masa 2 hari tersebut.

Kehadiran Timbalan Menteri Pelajaran Malaysia
Pada show hari Ahad petang (matinee) penonton penuh, aku tak perasan bila tiba-tiba semasa break 15 minit, Juruacara mengumumkan kedatangan Timbalan Menteri Pelajaran Y.B Ir Dr. Wee Ka Siong. Beliau terus datang kepada aku mengucapkan tahniah di atas persembahan yang hebat ditunjukkan oleh pelajar SSJB.

Beliau seterusnya berjanji untuk datang ke sekolah untuk melihat perkembangan sekolah. Aku pun sempat bertanya kepada beliau tentang lokasi sekolah seni. Beliau memberitahu tempatnya di Bandar Putra Kulai. Tapi itu kata beliau adalah ura-ura sahaja.

Beliau turut berbangga dengan persembahan teater ini dan besar kemungkinan beliau akan membuat MOU dengan KeKKWa untuk mengadakan persembahan teater ini di Istana Budaya KualaLumpur. Tunggu aje lah.

Sesungguhnya penglibatan kami warga seni SSJB ini telah banyak memberikan pengalaman dan pengajaran yang sangat berharga dalam pelbagai aspek.

Surat Kelulusan Menjadi Jurulatih Seni yang sangat menggembirakan hati.

Hari ini, semua jurulatih senior mendapat surat kelulusan perpindahan sementara sebagai jurulatih gred DG41 berkuatkuasa 01/06/2008 hingga 01/06/2010.

Agaknya diorang tak tau kot aku melatih student sekolah seni daripada tahun lepas.
Tahun lepas cuma 4 orang jurulatih ini ajelah yang bertungkus lumus, bekerja keras, membentuk, membina pelajar-pelajar di sini. Woooo bukan senang woooo. Dengan serba serbi kekurangan. fasiliti dan peralatan yang kurang. Kami tabah menghadapi cabaran ini demi agama bangsa dan negara yang tercinta.

Kiranya tahun lepas tu kitaorang bukan jurulatih cuma di arahkan pindah sekolah aje, Kalau aku tau JPJS punya auta ni.

Baik aku tak masuk sekolah seni tahun lepas. Masuk tahun ini aje macam jurulatih yang baru.

Dah la tak ada backdated kita cuma guru akademik biasa aje, walaupun kerja sampai malam kadang-kadang tidor di sekolah pun ada.

Kitorang yang set up , bentuk pelajar sekolah seni ini kepada tahap yang ada sekarang.

Siapa yang besalah dalam hal ini. Masing-masing mestilah tak nak mengaku salah.
Mestilah pihak KPM ada jawapan yang konkrit yang kukuh beserta dengan fakta dan pekeliling la. Diorang mesti menang punya. Kau siapa nak tanya-tanya.

Mestilah diorang tak bersalah.

Aku rasa semua orang tak salah. Nak tau sebabnya. Sebabnya ialah harga minyak dunia naik. Jadi bila harga minyak naik maka diorang buat kerja ni pun pening kepala.

Hmmm.. Malas la aku nak tau kenapa perkara ni berlaku kepada kitaorang yang pioneer di sekolah seni yang tercinta ini.

Itulah antara beberapa perkara Auta yang banyak di gula-gulakan kepada kami.

Apa-apa pun kepada mereka yang teringin menjadi jurulatih di Sekolah Seni no problem dah.

Cuma kalau nak mintak jadi jurulatih tu..... aku syorkan korang nyanyi lagu Janji Manismu oleh Aishah. ok. Sebab lagu tu sedaplah... ala nyanyi aje lah.. Lagu tu pernah menang Anugerah Juara Lagu TV3 tahun 1990.

Kalau lagu tu lagu sedih korang tak suka, Aku ada cadangan lagu lain.

5 Common Problems with Music Lessons (and how to avoid them!)

Over the past 9 years we have talked with hundreds of students and families about their experiences with music programs and what they felt about these experiences. We found common complaints recurring over and over and have made it our mission to create a school offering whatever has been missing from these programs. This is a list of these common problems and what steps as a school we take to help students and families to avoid them.

Common problem #1:
Students are instructed in a very strict manner with a heavy emphasis on note reading and theory. Students do exercises and theory homework but are not allowed to play songs. Students are only allowed to play a song when everything seems perfect and wait months or years to be allowed to play and enjoy their instrument. These students and parents usually feel defeated and begin to look at music as a chore with little payoff and lacking any real joy.

Solution: At our school we allow students to play their instruments and correct their technique as they go. Using the Suzuki method allows students to memorize songs by ear and focus their attention on proper posture and technique. Students get into the habit of playing correctly and sounding good on their instrument every day while they also get to experience the joy of playing songs. When strong habits of play are formed we then begin to take a look at note reading and theory.

Common problem #2:

Students are allowed to play many songs daily with a focus on fun but without focusing on technique. Although in the beginning students will enjoy this approach it will not take long before students realize that they are not really progressing. In fact many students taught in this way learn bad habits that make it difficult or impossible to play more difficult pieces. When these students come to our program we have to work very hard at correcting these bad habits which may have been going on for years. Unfortunately these parents and students have wasted a lot of time and money which could have been prevented.

Solution: In addition to hiring highly skilled University trained teachers we offer instruction targeted towards building technique every day from the ground up. In lessons students receive practice charts daily that begin with the most basic exercises. As they go through their charts the songs and scales become progressively more challenging in a subtle way. Every level of the practice chart works to support the next level and creates positive momentum over the course of the practice. This system works because when students reach their most challenging piece they can play it comfortably because their technique has been supported throughout the practice.

Common problem #3:
"My child won't practice and we fight over it!" Unfortunately many students do not want to practice and it causes tension between parents and students. Many of these parents know that music education is important but keep wondering, "is it worth all the trouble?"

Solution: As a music program we offer resources to help parents and teachers motivate students to practice. When students enroll we offer a free booklet "9 ways create successful practices at home". Younger students receive stickers every time they complete a part of their practice chart which makes the practices more fun. We also provide two free recitals twice per year to give students a goal to work towards. Finally, teachers discuss strategies in lessons to make students and parents create the habit of practicing at home.

Common problem #4:
Students can play their instrument well, but they cannot read music. This is commonly seen in students who are kept in the Suzuki method for too long. Students who cannot read music will not be able to perform music in groups or an orchestra and will be shut off to a whole world of music. Learning new music beyond the intermediate stages will also be extremely difficult and will take a long time. When music becomes more complicated you simply cannot play it all by ear and you need help from the written page.

Solution: Teach students how to read music at the right time and in the right way. In our program our first goal is to have students in the strong habit of playing correctly and sounding good on their instrument every day. When this is achieved our teachers then gradually begin to teach note reading, music theory and implement some easy sight reading into student's practice charts. As students become confident and skilled in their reading a whole world of music is opened up to them. Not only do these students become excellent sight readers but we allow students to explore new music as part of their practice such as Celtic, Jazz, Fiddle, Ragtime, Movie Soundtracks and more. Now that these students are in the habit of sounding good, they can easily maintain that habit even when they are sight reading.

Common problem #5:
Many students and parents have told us stories about teachers they have had that have turned them off to music. The instruction has been very rigid, strict and negative. These students were pushed to excel at music through fear motivation. Unfortunately many of these students quit, never to return to music, or they continue onward struggling with a loss of self confidence.

Solution: Lessons in our program are focused deeply on sharing a love for music. We believe students achieve their highest potential when they are positively reinforced and we work on building a student's confidence. We realize that some students will seek professional careers in music and others will not. We strive for our students to achieve excellence in their music and we encourage them to enjoy playing for a lifetime!

Peralatan Wayang Kulit tiba

Peralatan Wayang kulit Kelantan telah pun sampai ke sekolah semalam.

Wayang Kulit adalah satu bentuk teater tradisional yang menggunakan prinsip
cahaya dan bayang. Bayang-bayang daripada patung-patung kulit yang terdiri
dari pelbagai watak methologi dan khayalan dilarikan oleh seorang Dalang.
Persembahan wayang kulit selalunya diiringi oleh satu kumpulan muzik paluan
atau gamelan dan juga alat tiupan (serunai) atau alat bertali (rebab).

Serunai Kelantan

Peralatan tersebut termasuklah satu Set panggung Wayang Kulit, pakaian, patung watak wayang kulit dan juga peralatan muzik yang dibawa dari Kelantan telah diletakkan di Studio Teater.

Wayang kulit adalah merupakan salah satu elemen yang terkandung di dalam sukatan pendidikan kesenian di sekolah seni yang mempunyai kesemua aspek seni iaitu muzik, teater, tarian dan seni visual.

Diharapkan dengan adanya peralatan ini, maka akan lebih mudahlah proses apresiasi terhadap muzik tradisi ini didedahkan kepada pelajar Sekolah Seni Johor Bahru.

Hari ini telah dijalankan bengkel gamelan anjuran bersama Sekolah Seni Johor Bahru dan Sekolah Tun Fatimah, Johor Bahru.

Bengkel ini bertujuan untuk memberi pendedahan tentang sejarah, alat muzik gamelan, teknik permainan serta membuat komposisi lagu gamelan.

Tenaga pengajarnya adalah merupakan pelajar-pelajar Ijazah Sarjana Muda Pendidikan Muzik dari Universiti Teknologi Mara, Shah Alam yang berkemahiran tinggi serta berpengalaman luas dalam permainan gamelan.

Bengkel ini disertai oleh 20 orang pelajar bidang Seni Muzik Sekolah Seni Johor Bahru manakala Sekolah Tun Fatimah pula diwakili oleh 20 orang pelajar dari Kelab Gamelan sekolah tersebut.

Majlis penutup diakhiri dengan persembahan gamelan secara kumpulan yang turut disaksikan oleh Tn. Hj Ishak Mahbob selaku pengetua Sekolah Seni Johor Bahru.

Di dalam ucapan penutupnya beliau menyatakan program berbentuk linkages atau kerjasama di antara sekolah ini dan sekolah luar khususnya dalam bidang kesenian adalah merupakan salah satu aspek yang dijalankan oleh pihak sekolah bagi merapatkan hubungan serta bertukar-tukar
idea dan ilmu di antara kedua-dua sekolah.

Perjumpaan Produksi 1 Seni Tari dan Seni Muzik

Masa : 3.15 - 4.00 petang

Produksi 1 Seni Tari dan Seni Muzik akan diadakan pada 24 Mei 2008.
Koreografer bagi 1 Nilam ialah Athirah Najwa bte Rosli. Bagi lagu tarian yang digunakan bertajuk Joget Mengambil Hati. Penyediaan set pula sudah siap 40% rangkanya tetapi belum diwarnakan lagi. Ajk busana telah berjaya mendapatkan baju pengantin tetapi bagi baju penari masih belum pasti lagi.Ajk yang lain telah pun membuat persiapan mereka masing-masing.

Kelas 1 Zamrud pula sudah membuat persiapan mereka tersendiri kata koreografer kelas tersebut iaitu Nurul Aidilla Syamimie.Antaranya,lagu bagi tarian mereka gunakan ialah Zapin Dia Datang.Ajk penyediaan set pula sudah menyiapkanbeberapa rangka set mereka.Bagi penyediaan props,mereka menggunakan guni dan daun kering manakala penyediaan busana pula akan di usahakan untuk meminjam busana daripada Yayasan Warisan Johor dan meminta pertolongan pelajar lelaki untuk meminjamkan sampin mereka untuk digunakan dalam busana mereka.

Bagi kelas 1 Topaz,koreografer mereka iaitu Nur Farhana telah memilih lagu yang bertajuk Rancak Bertemu dan lagu Canggung.Selain itu,busana bagi penari sudah ada tetapi masih belum dibawa lagi.Ajk busana juga memerlukan pelajar lelaki meminjamkan songkok tinggi mereka.Ajk Tatarias pula sudah siap bersedia dengan lakaran dan surat sudah siap dibuat.Penyediaan set,props,dan tatacahaya pula akan siap dilakukan selepas cuti tahun baru cina.
Bagi ketiga-tiga kelas, peralatan muzik yang diperuntukkan bagi kesemua lagu ialah set angklung, kompang, jidur, harmonium, violin, gitar, rebana, set gendang, gamelan dan gitar bass.Bagi pengurusan muzik,ahli pemain muzik tidak mencukupi untuk menyempurnakan persembahan.Mereka memerlukan pemain muzik khususnya alat muzik tradisional seperti gendang,gamelan dan sebagainya.

Penglibatan SSJB dalam Konsert KPM 2008

BAKAT seni warga pendidikan yang akan ditonjolkan menerusi Konsert Kementerian Pelajaran ke-10 di Dewan Plenary KLCC, pada 14 Mac ini turut mendapat pendedahan peringkat antarabangsa di mana ia akan disaksikan delegasi Menteri Pelajaran Asean yang berada di Malaysia sempena Persidangan Majlis Menteri-Menteri Pelajaran Asia Tenggara dan Mesyuarat Menteri-Menteri Pelajaran Asean.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin dan Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Nur Zahirah, berkenan berangkat menyaksikan konsert itu.

Diana Adha Mohd Abid (paling kanan)- Empat Dara

Konsert tahun ini bertema Gema Gemilang dibahagikan kepada enam segmen persembahan.

Persembahan akan dimulakan di luar dewan oleh 48 pemuzik yang akan memperdengarkan paluan gendang seirama kompang, gendang Cina dan gendang India sebagai simbolik perpaduan bangsa Malaysia bagi menyambut ketibaan tetamu kehormat.

Seterusnya, persembahan dalam dewan yang membabitkan 37 judul lagu akan dimulakan dengan segmen pertama iaitu Persembahan Buka Panggung menampilkan gubahan moden dan tradisional yang mengandungi elemen wayang kulit dan mak yong.

Ia diikuti segmen Gema Warisan iaitu persembahan medley lagu rakyat dan permainan tradisional kanak-kanak serta rentak Melayu dan Gema Lagenda iaitu medley lagu ciptaan dan nyanyian tokoh lagenda seni muzik negara, Tan Sri P Ramlee, Puan Sri Saloma dan M Shariff.

Menerusi Gema Malaysia pula lagu kontemporari Melayu, Cina dan Tamil, iaitu lagu Lelaki Ini, Tong Hua dan Kanavellam, yang menggambarkan keutuhan masyarakat majmuk di Malaysia akan dipersembahkan.

Persembahan medley lagu negara Asia Tenggara turut ditampilkan menerusi segmen Gema Asean bagi meraikan delegasi Menteri Pelajaran Asean yang hadir pada konsert berkenaan. Segmen Gemilang Warisan pula membabitkan persembahan insrumental mengandungi unsur muzik moden dan tradisional sebelum lagu tema konsert Dirgahayu Tuanku dinyanyikan sebagai acara penutup acara berkenaan.

Konsert Kementerian Pelajaran, cetusan idea Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak semasa menjadi Menteri Pelajaran, diadakan sejak 1997 sebagai pemangkin kepada warga seni muzik di bawah kementerian itu mempamerkan dan menghayati nilai estetika serta profesionalisme ke arah melahirkan masyarakat yang menghargai karya seni.

SSJB turut berjaya menampilkan beberapa bakat besar dalam bidang nyanyian dan muzik. Mereka ialah:

Hari ini Ujian kibod skel D major menaik dan menurun 2 oktaf dijalankan setelah selesai PnP. Pelajar dikehendaki untuk memainkan skel tersebut mengikut tempo yang telah ditetapkan.

Aspek teknikal yang dinilai adalah:

1. Not yang betul.
2. Penjarian

Setiap permainan kibod oleh pelajar telah dirakam dengan menggunakan perisian Cakewalk sonar 7.0 sebagai evidens atau catatan bukti.

Bengkel Muzik Vokal oleh Pn Siti Hajar

Bengkel Muzik ini telah dianjurkan oleh Sekolah Seni Johor Bahru dan dipimpin oleh ProVoiz Consultancy & Services di bawah pimpinan Pn Siti Hajar dan Pn Hjh Zinlili Hj Abdul Latif.

Seramai 136 orang pelajar tingkatan 1 dan 2 Sekolah Seni Johor Bahru dan 25 orang pelajar Sekolah Seni Kuching telah mengikuti program selama 3 hari 2 malam ini.

Program ini telah mendedahkan pelajar kepada sebutan vokal yang betul.
Pelbagai aktiviti yang menarik seperti latihan bunyi hissing, bubling, tongue drill dan latihan pernafasan telah diajar bagi membetulkan sebutan yang baik dan berkesan.

Program Siri Syarahan Aswara telah dianjurkan oleh oleh Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan yang telah disampaikan oleh Encik Yusnor EF bertajuk P. Ramlee: Melodi Lagenda.
Penyampaian syarahan ini banyak berkisar kepada sejarah P. Ramlee sehingga dimartabatkankan sebagai seorang lagenda dalam seni muzik.
Penceramah juga banyak mengimbas kembali kenangan beliau bersama P. Ramlee serta prosedur yang terpaksa diikuti bagi melahirkan seni budaya yang dapat dikenag sepanjang zaman.
Siri syarahan ini banyak memberi pengetahuan yang lebih dekat kepada generasi baru yang lebih banyak terdedah dengan kesenian moden berbanding dengan kesenian warisan.

Perjumpaan Produksi 1 Seni Tari dan Seni Muzik

Produksi 1 Seni Tari dan Seni Muzik akan diadakan pada 24 Mei 2008.
Koreografer bagi 1 Nilam ialah Athirah Najwa bte Rosli. Bagi lagu tarian yang digunakan bertajuk Joget Mengambil Hati. Penyediaan set pula sudah siap 40% rangkanya tetapi belum diwarnakan lagi. Ajk busana telah berjaya mendapatkan baju pengantin tetapi bagi baju penari masih belum pasti lagi.Ajk yang lain telah pun membuat persiapan mereka masing-masing.

Taklimat daripada Athirah Najwa

Kelas 1 Zamrud pula sudah membuat persiapan mereka tersendiri kata koreografer kelas tersebut iaitu Nurul Aidilla Syamimie.Antaranya,lagu bagi tarian mereka gunakan ialah Zapin Dia Datang.Ajk penyediaan set pula sudah menyiapkanbeberapa rangka set mereka.Bagi penyediaan props,mereka menggunakan guni dan daun kering manakala penyediaan busana pula akan di usahakan untuk meminjam busana daripada Yayasan Warisan Johor dan meminta pertolongan pelajar lelaki untuk meminjamkan sampin mereka untuk digunakan dalam busana mereka.

Pelajar tekun mendengar taklimat daripada koreografer.

Bagi kelas 1 Topaz,koreografer mereka iaitu Nur Farhana telah memilih lagu yang bertajuk Rancak Bertemu dan lagu Canggung.Selain itu,busana bagi penari sudah ada tetapi masih belum dibawa lagi.Ajk busana juga memerlukan pelajar lelaki meminjamkan songkok tinggi mereka.Ajk Tatarias pula sudah siap bersedia dengan lakaran dan surat sudah siap dibuat.Penyediaan set,props,dan tatacahaya pula akan siap dilakukan selepas cuti tahun baru cina.
Bagi ketiga-tiga kelas, peralatan muzik yang diperuntukkan bagi kesemua lagu ialah set angklung, kompang, jidur, harmonium, violin, gitar, rebana, set gendang, gamelan dan gitar bass.Bagi pengurusan muzik,ahli pemain muzik tidak mencukupi untuk menyempurnakan persembahan.Mereka memerlukan pemain muzik khususnya alat muzik tradisional seperti gendang,gamelan dan sebagainya.

Pendaftaran Pelajar Tingkatan 1 Sesi 2008

Sekolah Seni Johor Bahru, Johor telah menerima seramai kira-kira 43 orang pelajar baru Tingkatan 1 bagi sesi persekolahan 2008. Pelajar-pelajar berbilang kaum yang cemerlang ini telah hadir melapor diri bersama ibu bapa masing-masing dan perjalanan pendaftaran pelajar ini telah berlangsung dengan baik berkat kerjasama para guru dan pihak pentadbiran sekolah.

Majlis ini telah diserikan dengan persembahan pelajar bermula dari pukul 9.00 pagi sehingga pukul 11.00 pagi untuk menghiburkan ibubapa serta menghilangkan kebosanan sebelum sesi taklimat bermula.

Majlis pendaftaran pelajar baru telah dirasmikan oleh Penolong Pengarah Jabatan Pendidikan Jasmani dan Sukan ( JPJS ) Pn Rawiyah bte Mustaffa Kamal. Majlis diteruskan lagi dengan persembahan multimedia mengenai latar belakang sekolah.

Sehubungan dengan itu, para ibubapa juga diberikan taklimat ringkas tentang sekolah oleh Pengetua Sekolah Seni Johor Bahru, Tn Hj Ishak bin Mahbob.

Ujibakat Konsert Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia 2008

Konsert Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia pada tahun ini akan diadakan pada 14 Mac 2008 di KL Convention Centre.

Semalam aku bermesyuarat di Putrajaya bagi membincangkan mengenai sesi ujibakat untuk pemilihan penyanyi dan pemuzik di seluruh Malaysia.

Sesi tersebut akan diadakan pada 8 Januari 2008 mengikut zon di lokasi-lokasi berikut bermula dari pukul 8.00 pagi hingga 5.00 petang.

Utara - IPSAH Sungai Petani Kedah.
Tengah - IPIK Cheras
Selatan - Sekolah Seni Johor Bahru
Timur - IPKT Kuala Terengganu
Sabah - IPGaya
Sarawak - Sekolah Seni Kuching

Selamat kembali ke sekolah

Sesi 2008 telahpun bermula dengan kembalinya pelajar-pelajar setelah bercuti panjang. Pejam celik pejam celik dah setahun belajar.

Homesick pun dah hilang malah makin seronok berada di sekolah ini. Ramai yang tak sabar-sabar nak memulakan sesi pembelajaran..... apatah lagi bila peralatan muzik dan lain-lain dah bertambah dan prasarana yang telah di'upgrade'.

Pelajar-pelajar tingkatan dua telah mendaftar di asrama pada hari Rabu 2 Januari 2008. Ada yang bersemangat menolong aku memasang almari baru dibeli.... tapi iyelah harapkan ramai aje.... tak siap jugak.... Last-last aku jugak yang buat ikut manualnya.

Di masa yang sama jugak aku dan Penolong Kanan Seni mengadakan perbincangan dengan Pn. Siti Hajar untuk mengadakan satu bengkel Muzik Vokal di sekolah ini yang dirancang pada 22-24 Februari 2008. Program ini juga akan melibatkan pelajar dari Sekolah Seni Kuching Sarawak

yang akan dijemput sama .

Tahun baru 2008 telahpun menjelma, maka dengan azam yang jitu dan semangat yang kental untuk membangunkan modal insan khususnya dalam bidang kesenian pelbagai perubahan yang telah dilakukan si sekolah ini di bawah pengurusan yang baru.

Learning to play guitar is a process, and there is no finish line. How long does it take to play guitar, is a question students often ask their teacher. How long it takes to play the guitar depends on what your definition of guitar playing is!

The last few decades has seen a remarkable growth in the popularity of rock music and guitar playing has become pretty attractive for many.

Today the guitar is everywhere; a versatile instrument -
adapting itself to almost any kind of situation, Victimized by it's own success, it has become something more than a musical instrument - like the swastika before it, it has become the symbol of a social revolution! The ultimate emblem of grooviness! It is now an object unto itself!

Guitar enthusiasts are so often blinded by the symbol that they remain deaf to the world of musical wonders that lie beyond their blinkered six-string field of interest.

Many teenagers exist who aspire to become rock superstars, but there is also a section who wants to learn guitar playing just for sake of it. But many of them end up losing hope of learning
guitar since they don't find the best way to learn guitar.

How long does it take to play guitar?

If you can answer the following questions and make these important distinctions you
will have a good idea.

QUESTION ONE: How do you view the instrument?

Do you want to be (a) guitar owner, (b) guitar player, (c) a musician who uses the guitar for musical expression?

Essentially there's three levels of involvement with the guitar:

1. Guitar owners - to qualify you need only to have enough funds to purchase the instrument, for these people the guitar is simply a toy, like a computer game, or fashion accessory. How
long does it take you to play the guitar if you're in this category? About 5-10 minutes max. The important thing here is to "be seen to be playing the guitar"!

2. Guitar players - players in this category are often very dedicated and speed many hours practicing their instrument. Mostly self taught, they learn almost exclusively from guitar
tab, and their friends. How long does it take to play guitar in this category?... these players understand it's a lifetime journey.

3. Musicians who play guitar as their chosen instrument- players in category two focus on guitar playing skills, whereas level three players understand the whole scope of the musical landscape. A good musician not only plays their instrument well, they understand and can intelligently discuss all music.

These players:

(a) listen to all types of music

(b) read about all types of music

(c) study all types of music

How long does it take to play guitar in this category? Again, it's a lifetime of hard work and discipline. What's the difference between category two and category three?

Level two players must have their instrument in their hands to communicate ideas, whereas, musicians who play guitar as their chosen instrument know and can discuss, the qualities which make Herb Ellis or Barney Kessel a great jazz player; why Duke Ellington is a jazz innovator; Michel Legrand a great composer and orchestrator. They know why good symphonies are good and bad symphonies are bad; they know why good pop or country songs are good (musically) and bad songs are bad.

QUESTION TWO: Are you internally motivated or externally motivated?

Externally motivated players usually give up playing the guitar once they realize that they are responsible for their progress. these players quickly move on to the new 'hip' fad (only to give
up on that as soon as things get a bit challenging).

An obvious example of this type of externally motivated player and their associated problems and disappointments is with the recent popularity of computer games where people pretend to play the guitar.

Despite PR claims from computer games companies that their computer guitar games improve the player's rhythm and hand dexterity, professional guitar teachers worldwide have reported
that guitar computer game veterans have been disappointed when confronted with the real-world requirements of hard work and delayed gratification. They expect to jump into it and learn it as quickly as they learned the game, and they realize that they can't.

I'll assume if you have read this far you're more interested in category two or three!
needless to say that only internally motivated players make it into category two and three.

QUESTION THREE: What is the source of your information? common knowledge or specialized knowledge?

Today it is not a question of information on any particular subject, after all we live in the information age, don't we? To accelerate your progress on the guitar and rapidly decrease the
time it takes you to play the guitar, what we need is specialized knowledge to help us assemble the relevant knowledge to achieve our goals.

The first thing to understand is that learning guitar is something that takes a long time. how long it takes to learn depends on what you want to learn.

Learning guitar is hard work but it's really important to have fun and have your guitar make cool sounds while you're learning all the hard bits. The main thing you have to consider when
learning how to play guitar is who is teaching you how to play guitar.
